Big Oil and the Takeover of our Democracy: a talk by Kevin Taft, Ph.D.

Open to all Langara faculty, students, and employees.Kevin Taft is the former leader of the Liberal Party of Alberta (2004 – 2008) and the author of several books on Canadian politics and public affairs. He has a doctorate in business from the University of Warwick and was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for 11 years.

In his latest book, Oil’s Deep State (Lorimer, 2017), Taft investigates the political influence of the petroleum industry in Alberta and the rest of Canada. He contends that Big Oil is undermining  Canadian democracy and blocking action on climate change.

Following Dr. Taft’s presentation, he will field questions from the floor.
